June is National Cancer Survivors Month. For children who have had cancer, survivorship is not a single moment. It is everything that comes after treatment ends, carrying what they have been through without letting it define them.
The end of treatment is a milestone worth celebrating and also the start of a longer chapter that gets far less attention. Many survivors mark the end of treatment with a celebration. Some want to leave the diagnosis behind entirely, while others need years before they are ready to talk about it.
Beth is one of them. As a teenager, she was treated for Stage IV Hodgkin’s disease, and her story is part of how Hope & Heroes came to be. For nearly three decades, she kept that story to herself. This year, she chose to share it again.
“At Hope & Heroes, you’re not just a medical chart,” Beth says. “They really take the whole patient into account.”
Survivorship is more than getting through treatment. It’s about building a full life afterward, with the support of people who understand.
As we mark our 30th anniversary, that belief shapes how we show up.
