Quick Facts
- Childhood cancers are the #1 disease killer of children - more than asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and pediatric AIDS combined.
- Childhood cancer is not single disease, but rather many different types that fall into 12 major categories. Common adult cancers are extremely rare in children, yet many cancers are almost exclusively found in children.
- Childhood cancers are cancers that primarily affect children, teens and young adults. When cancer strikes children and young adults, it affects them differently than it would an adult.
- Attempts to detect childhood cancers at an earlier stage, when the disease would react more favorably to treatment, have largely failed. Young patients often have a more advanced stage of cancer when first diagnosed.

Golf Event
Hope & Heroes raises almost half of its yearly income for children with cancer through events. Since 1997, our golf tournament has been a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts. It is a terrific way to raise support and create community awareness and interest in our cause.

On July 16th, 2012 the Hope & Heroes Golf Tournament returned to an old and prestigious favorite, Winged Foot, and paired with a first trip to a hidden secret, Quaker Ridge. Led by our Golf Chair, Jeff Kurtz (Hope & Heroes Board Member) and our Golf Committee, the event raised over $430,000! After a hot day on the course, all the golfers met at Winged Foot for an evening celebration, highlighted by our patient speaker, Ashley Ruth.
