Second Annual Winter Gala | 1.26.08 | LQ New York

Our second WINTER GALA was a great success and with a $35,000 net profit, the monies have been distributed between two specialized programs at Columbia University Medical Center:

The Integrative Therapies Program for Children with Cancer provides a variety of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) services to help children and their families as they progress through cancer therapy and into survivorship. To ease side effects from treatment and to manage the stress of a cancer diagnosis, the program offers the following: herbal and nutrition counseling and guidance, aromatherapy, acupuncture, acupressure, massage therapy, reflexology, Reiki, meditation, exercise, yoga and movement therapy.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation Developmental Therapeutics Program promotes the discovery and evaluation of new anti-cancer agents. This program allows us to offer our patients, the patients at our affiliate institutions, and those children with cancer throughout the greater New York metropolitan region, many of the newest and most cutting-edge treatments available in the United States.

Thank you to our committee and all the people who attended. It was a fantastic night.

A Letter from Dr. Julia Glade Bender
Dear Silver Lining Society,

I understand the Silver Lining Society's hard work has paid off and that the Developmental Therapeutics program is one of the beneficiaries. I cannot thank you enough. Our program has a dual mission: to provide local patients families access to the newest promising drugs, and to learn through research from their experiences for the benefit of others in the future. I think our program is unique in that we always try to maintain the patient as our primary focus. Your donation will allow us to continue to grow. In the past year, we have already succeeded in doubling early trial participation over previous years. I am truly grateful for your generous gift to pursue this mission. I hope we can continue to earn your support in the future. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information or education to your group.

Sincerely, Julia Glade Bender, M.D
Director, Developmental Therapeutics Program
